Akanee is a modern Thai restaurant tucked down a quiet lane off Yuyuan Road, in Changning, set in a remodeled one-storey lane house. It plates Thai flavors with Western technique in a Bangkok-hip room that opened in 2025. Individual dishes run from about ¥38 to ¥298, so expect roughly ¥200 to ¥280 per person for a full meal with drinks. The lane-house space is small, so booking ahead is wise. It suits a date, a small group dinner, or anyone after Thai food that leans creative rather than canteen-classic.
Fu 1088 is a one-Michelin-star Shanghainese restaurant in a restored 1920s villa on Zhenning Road in Changning, serving refined benbang cooking across 16 private dining rooms. The whole restaurant is private rooms, so every table is booked in advance and there is no walk-in counter; weekends and the larger rooms go weeks ahead. The kitchen works through the classics of the genre, from crab roe xiao long bao to sauteed peas with diced Yunnan ham and eight-treasure hot sauce, plated in dining rooms of dark wood, tiled floors and period light fittings.
