Shanghai Museum is a major museum of ancient Chinese art on People's Square in Huangpu, Shanghai, housed in a landmark bronze-colored dome building on Renmin Avenue. Its galleries hold bronzes, ceramics, calligraphy, painting, jade, coins, and seals from one of the country's most important collections. Since Shanghai Museum East opened in Pudong, this site focuses on major special exhibitions alongside its permanent galleries. Admission is free, but timed reservations are required via the official WeChat account or website. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00 (last entry 16:00); closed Mondays except public holidays.
