Shanghai Grand Theatre
上海大剧院
Shanghai Grand Theatre is the city's flagship performing arts venue, on People's Avenue at the northern edge of People's Square in Huangpu. Opened in 1998 to a design by French architect Jean-Marie Charpentier, its upturned glass roof is a People's Square landmark. Three auditoriums sit inside: a 1,800-seat main hall for opera, ballet and symphonic work, a 600-seat middle theatre for chamber programmes, and a 200-seat studio for drama. Metro Lines 1, 2 and 8 all stop at People's Square, a few minutes' walk away. Programmes are listed in Chinese and English, and tickets sell through the theatre and the major ticketing platforms.
