Where to Get Vaccinations in Shanghai and What They Cost (2026)

Whether you need a flu shot before winter, an HPV course, routine jabs for your kids, or a yellow-fever certificate before a trip, Shanghai has a system for all of it, once you learn which door to knock on. The wrinkle is that different vaccines live behind different ones. Here is how to find the right one, what it costs, and how to keep a record you can carry home.

Are any vaccines required to enter China in 2026?

For most travellers, no. The one exception is yellow fever: if you are flying in from a country where it is a risk, you may be asked for a valid certificate. Beyond that, bodies like the CDC suggest you keep routine shots current (measles, mumps and rubella, tetanus, polio) and consider hepatitis A and typhoid. What you actually need is personal.

Where do I get routine shots and flu vaccines?

Everyday vaccines, including the seasonal flu shot and children's routine immunisations, are given at neighbourhood community health centres (社区卫生服务中心). Shanghai runs a "Smart Vaccination" booking feature that both residents and expats can use:

1. Open the Suishenban (随申办) app or the Healthcare Cloud (健康云) app, or the Shanghai Disease Control centre's official WeChat account.
2. Find the Smart Vaccination section, which lists clinics near your home and their available slots.
3. Book an appointment, then bring your passport on the day, plus any vaccination record you already carry so the clinic can see what you have had.

You can add a child as a recipient in the same app and book on their behalf, which is how most parents handle kids' shots. Once your profile is saved, a flu jab is basically a walk-around-the-block errand.

Where do I get the HPV vaccine?

The HPV vaccine, including the 9-valent that covers nine types, is offered at community clinics and at private international hospitals, and is generally recommended for women aged 9 to 45. The catch is supply: demand for the 9-valent has long outrun supply at public clinics, which is one reason some people book privately instead. The Parkway Shanghai Vaccination Center, at 3F, No. 138 Middle Huaihai Road, Huangpu District, runs HPV and other adult vaccines by appointment: you trade a little money for a spot on the calendar instead of the queue. Before you give up on the public route, though, supply has genuinely loosened since late 2025: an imported 9-valent subsidy program (惠民接种) opened new slots, including a free third dose for women aged 35 to 45, and by September 2026 several districts, Changning among them, ran weekend HPV sessions you could walk into without booking. Check the 上海疾控 WeChat account and widen your search past your own neighbourhood before you assume the wait is a year.

Where do I get travel vaccines and yellow fever?

For travel-specific vaccines and the official yellow-fever certificate, there is one dedicated address: the Shanghai International Travel Healthcare Center (上海国际旅行卫生保健中心), which handles cross-border immunisation and travel-health consultations.

What do vaccines cost in Shanghai?

Adult optional vaccines are self-pay (自费) whether or not you carry local insurance, and the split is simple: public community clinics are the low-cost option, private centres charge a premium for faster booking. Here are the August 2026 community-clinic reference prices for the HPV course, the one everyone asks about.

In US dollars, roughly USD 193 a dose and USD 586 for the 9-valent course, at about 6.7 RMB to the dollar in August 2026, so treat them as a ballpark.

Those are the public numbers. If you would rather not wait out the 9-valent queue, a private centre runs about RMB 5,000 to 7,000 (~USD 741 to 1042) for the three-dose package. How do I keep a vaccination record?

Ask for a written or stamped record every single time. Community clinics issue a vaccination booklet, the travel centre issues the internationally recognised yellow certificate, and private hospitals will print one on request. Photograph every page, front and back, so the vaccine name, the date and the little lot-number sticker all come out legible.
