Tianzifang

田子坊

Tianzifang is a maze of restored shikumen lane houses turned arts, crafts and dining quarter off Taikang Road in Huangpu District, near Dapuqiao metro on Line 9. Entry to the lanes is free; you pay only for what you buy or order. The narrow alleys hold small galleries, design studios, craft shops, tea houses, coffee bars and restaurants set inside converted 1930s residences. It suits a leisurely afternoon of browsing and people-watching, with plenty of places to stop for a drink or a meal. Weekends get crowded. Most shops open around 10:00 and close by 22:00, while the public lanes stay accessible all day.
