Tabani Bar & Bistro is a cozy Eastern European bar and bistro on Hengshan Lu in Xuhui, tucked into Yongping Li and named after the thick pancake-flatbread it serves alongside borscht, goulash and draniki. The menu wanders from Eastern Europe to the Caucasus, the room stays warm and unfussy, and it pours from late morning to midnight, which makes it as good for a slow lunch as for a nightcap. Shanghai's food press has been quietly circling it since it opened, and the Slavic comfort-food niche it fills is real.
