Zhujiajiao Ancient Town

朱家角古镇

Zhujiajiao Ancient Town is a 1,700-year-old canal town in Qingpu, the easiest water-town day trip from central Shanghai: Metro Line 17 from Hongqiao Railway Station gets you to Zhujiajiao station in about 35 minutes, then it is a 15-minute walk. Entry to the lanes and stone bridges is free; a combo ticket for the gardens, temples and small museums costs roughly 45 to 80 RMB, and hand-rowed boats tour the canals for a per-boat fee. Weekday mornings feel like another century; summer weekends feel like a festival.
