Yongnian Market

永年菜市场

Yongnian Market is an un-gentrified community wet market on Yongnian Road in Huangpu, the honest counterpoint to Shanghai's renovated net-red markets. It stayed a plain, working market for the neighbourhood, all produce and community and no polish, which is exactly why regulars love it. Prices run per 斤 (500g) and a full bag of vegetables, tofu and eggs is about ¥30 to ¥50. Go for the real, everyday texture of how the city actually shops.
